Forever Valor
Our military veteran centric program, Forever Valor, serves military veterans, active duty military, and family members of veterans and activity duty military.
Veterans are guided in identifying and addressing multiple sub-personalities or families within their own mental system. Veterans are supported in managing and resolving conflicts within themselves that have arisen as a result of their past traumatic experiences in a safe and secure environment.
This program offers a continuum of services including crisis stabilization, psychoeducation, and individual, couples, and family psychotherapy. Treatment is delivered in-person or via telehealth to reduce barriers to services and decrease stressors associated with secondary mental health conditions.
Military veterans have long suffered from CPTSD in silence.
The complexities of this disorder and lack of access to qualified and trained professionals has greatly impacted this community and their ability to overcome their traumatic experiences.
Serenity Counseling is determined to promote community awareness of CPTSD among military veterans and provide necessary treatment.
The Veteran Wellness Center
Currently, we are working to acquire funding via grants and donations to develop a veteran-only wellness center that will provide intensive outpatient services. The veteran's wellness center will focus on a holistic approach to physical and emotional well-being, with specially trained staff, through individual, family, and couples and group therapy. Individual therapy will also provided to veteran spouses and family members to promote understanding, empathy, and compassion.
We have certified and trained EMDR therapists and aim to train staff in other modalities such as: Brain Spotting, Internal Family Systems, and Neuro-feedback, all geared towards the complex issues veterans face today. Group therapy will include process groups, psycho-educational groups, skill building groups, and substance abuse groups. We will also have group therapy for family members so they may better understand Complex PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injuries and their impact on the veteran's lived experiences and emotional reactivity. Extended services will include a full functional gym, with a trainer to assist with physical movement, healthy lifestyle choices, and adaptability to physical limitations and physical disabilities. In addition, aquatic therapy will serve to improve physical health outcomes and decrease risk of physical injury and re-injury. Additional treatment approaches would include, but not limited to equine/animal therapy, sweat lodge therapy, aquatic therapy, physical movement therapy, and garden therapy to assist veterans with building connections and developing internal safety. Services will be delivered in-person.
The Veteran Wellness Center will offer a holistic approach to treatment with an option for medication support upon request. It would also encompass neuropsychological testing with the understanding that trauma has the capacity and in most cases does rewire the brain causing brain functionality issues in the conscious, neocortical thinking, and subcortical emotional regions. In addition to the long-term neurobiological deficits associated with these adverse life events, many veterans have experienced head injuries that have caused structural brain changes and in some cases resulted in Traumatic Brain Injuries. It is sometimes difficult to identify and discern these issues through evaluation and psychotherapy and even more challenging to identify the potential impact it may have on the veteran’s prognosis in treatment. Therefore, a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation would offer greater information about each individuals brain functioning including strengths and limitations, assist in the development of an individualized treatment plan and identify necessary modifications or accommodations needed to optimize treatment gains.
The Veteran Wellness Center will provide intensive outpatient services that include longer and/or more frequent sessions over a shorter period of time to help accelerate growth, healing, and recovery. The focus of the Wellness Center is to stabilize veterans in crisis, improve engagement in activities of daily living, enhance quality of life, and foster social support. Veterans would have access to crisis support, symptom management, a comprehensive treatment plan, psychoeducation, skill-development and process group therapy, family psychotherapy, individual case management, substance use counseling, and daily structure.
